Creating the perfect treats for your special event is what truly brings me joy.
Hello, I’m Sandy, The Cupcake Lady.
My passion for creating cupcakes began in 2012 when “Oreo Cupcakes,” was the answer to the yearly question,
What kind of cake do you want for your birthday?”
For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a mom – to be a role model, to make my someday children laugh, to help them through tough times, and to do my best to always make them feel special and to love them out loud. Growing up I always knew–and never questioned–that my mom loved me, but I never heard her speak the words “I love you” out loud. I grew up in a time when words weren’t always spoken, so it was not out of the ordinary, right?
My mom was a single mom who taught Jr. High Home Economics, attended bible study groups, and was amazing in the kitchen. She did all the things any awesome mom would do. She was my mentor; I wanted to be a mom just like her, except louder. Just before my mom passed from Melanoma Skin Cancer, I heard my mother tell my children out loud that she loved them as we were leaving from an afternoon visit. I was jealous, as I never heard those three words growing up myself, but I was overjoyed at the same time that I got to share that special moment and hear those words spoken to them. After that, I decided my love was going to be vocal. Family, friends, acquaintances, wouldn't just feel my love through my actions, but they would hear the words “I love you” out loud.
I simply love celebrating all life’s moments and birthdays are on top of the list. My mom always made our birthdays the highlight of our year. We waited anxiously for our day so we could enjoy our special homemade cake and to be celebrated with family and friends. Making a birthday special every year was a tradition that I was going to pass along to the next generation, to keep my mother’s memory alive.
My daughter’s request for “Oreo Cupcakes” on her birthday was a new request, so I thought I should do some research and made my way to the local cupcake shop. The moment I walked in, I was in awe - a bakery case filled with beautiful cupcakes! As I inched closer, I saw it – a chocolate cupcake piled high with cookies and cream buttercream, adorned with a single oreo on top. Right then, I had an idea… and I walked right out. I can still remember the jingle of the bells on the door, the sugar high smell, and the giddiness of my idea! That was my “origin story" moment. I walked out knowing I could make that cupcake myself which meant it would be even more special for my daughter. This also honored my mother and the tradition I wanted to continue. It was with that attitude, that I made the most incredible Oreo Cupcakes for my daughter’s party.
Twenty five pounds, and a few dozen cupcakes later, I learned I couldn’t, and shouldn’t, eat them all! Thankfully, I had a job working as a tech specialist in a school district which provided me with a community to share my creations. I found myself labeled the “tech gal" during the day and the “cupcake lady” in the evening. I was asked to bring cupcakes for teacher appreciation days, baby showers, staff birthdays, and the year-end celebrations. This blossomed into staff members asking if I would create treats for their own personal celebrations, but could I?
My defining moment came when I became a Registered Cottage Food Producer. This license enabled me to provide cupcakes for my daughter’s wedding reception. It was after creating delicious cupcakes and a spectacular tablescape to show them off that I gained the confidence I needed to start my own business and to start offering my creations to others.
But for me, it isn’t just about the cupcakes. It is about the whole experience of helping others create special moments. Not only do I offer memory making treats but I also personally deliver each order. Each priceless reaction as I delivery their personalized treats to their door is the highlight of every order. Baking has become my artistic outlet and I am head over heels, loving every moment. All I wanna do is create treats that make one smile and to help create lasting memories. It is my way of giving back and reliving my childhood memories, one celebration at a time.
